I picked up this slim volume by Maylis de Kerangal from our library because of a recommendation by the New York Times and the years I have spent in the food business.
Well, once I got started, I could not put it down until I was finished. It was a love letter to not only a young man becoming a Chef, but also to the process of becoming a Chef. I have a son who is a Chef and the book spoke to my heart.
While I could never quite figure out the role the narrator played in the Chef’s life, her writing and descriptions made me feel as if I was right there. In addition to the Chef part, the author also includes exotic locations and insights into the psyche of the industry.
If you are a Chef, are married or related to a Chef or are thinking of becoming a Chef, then this book is a must read.
Bon Appetit !
